Greater Bay Area Future Geosciences Symposium 2026
The Greater Bay Area Future Geosciences Symposium (GeoX-GBA 2026) will take place on 27–28 November 2026 at the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhuhai Campus. The symposium will bring together scholars, early-career researchers, and postgraduate students from the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond to discuss current questions in geosciences, share recent findings, and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary and regional collaboration.
Held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in December 2025, GeoX-GBA 2025 welcomed more than 100 scholars and students from over 10 universities and research institutions in the Greater Bay Area and elsewhere in mainland China. The programme included four plenary talks, 26 oral presentations, and a poster session, covering geosciences, environmental sciences, atmospheric sciences, geophysics, and planetary sciences. Discussions provided opportunities for researchers from different disciplines to exchange findings and establish academic connections.

Building on these exchanges, GeoX-GBA 2026 will focus on interdisciplinary geoscience research and dialogue across research specialisms. It will provide a forum for universities and research institutions across the Greater Bay Area and beyond to strengthen academic links and explore shared research interests.
The scientific programme will address recent advances in geosciences, environmental sciences, atmospheric sciences, geophysics, planetary sciences, and Earth observation. Particular emphasis will be placed on the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, big-data analytics, remote sensing, numerical modelling, and advanced Earth observation techniques to geoscience research. Drawing on theory, methods, and observations from different disciplines, participants will discuss scientific questions and research directions concerning the Earth system, natural resources, environmental change, and planetary evolution.
Through plenary talks, oral presentations, and poster discussions, the symposium will offer researchers across disciplines and career stages opportunities to present their work and engage in substantive scientific discussion. It will also support early-career researchers and postgraduate students in broadening their research perspectives and academic connections. These exchanges are intended to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthen regional research networks.
The School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, warmly invites scholars, early-career researchers, and postgraduate students to join the symposium in Zhuhai, share their research, and contribute to discussions on the future of geosciences and academic collaboration across the Greater Bay Area.
